Event Summary:
After the recent carrier restructuring and 3G license issuing in China, the markets in Pacific Rim including US, China, Japan and others, become a unique place in the world, where all major 3G and other mobile broadband technologies are demonstrating themselves and competing against each other. At the same time, moving to 4G era in major metropolitan areas hits up the debate between WiMAX and LTE. In this diversified mobile network environment, the wireless network equipment vendors and handset manufacturers are facing tremendous challenges as well as opportunities. What is the future trend of wireless broadband development in those major markets? What lessons can they learn from each other in US, China, Japan and others?

Dr. Dawei Zhang is the Director of Wireless, China Mobile USA Research Center, where he is responsible for China Mobile’s next generation wireless technologies and TD LTE product strategies and requirements. On behalf of China Mobile, he is the Chairman of the NGMN Trial Workgroup, where he is responsible for global operators’ LTE trial requirements and evaluations. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Chris Boyer is Assistant Vice President of Internet & Technology Policy for AT&T. Mr. Boyer is responsible for developing and coordinating AT&T's strategic public policy initiatives impacting emerging services and technology with a particular focus on Internet and video services. Mr. Boyer joined AT&T in 1993 and has held various positions in AT&T’s corporate public policy, network planning and engineering, network regulatory, wholesale marketing and network services departments including extensive experience working on AT&T's broadband, VoIP and IPTV initiatives. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Dr. Steven D. Gray holds the position of CTO and Vice President of Corporate Research with Huawei Technologies where he is responsible for driving the strategy and work programs for next generation wireless infrastructure. Prior to joining Huawei in March 2009, Dr. Gray was Sr. Vice President and GM for the Commercial Wireless Division at HYPRES Inc where he was responsible for product architecture, marketing, sales and product development of an all digital remote radio head for mobile broadband infrastructure. From 2005 until 2007, Dr Gray was Associate Vice President in the Cellular and Handheld Group which was originally part of Intel’s Mobility Group and was sold in 2006 to Marvell Technologies | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Dr. William C.Y. Lee serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for LinkAir Communications, Inc., the developer of LAS-CDMA—a new patented technology for wireless telecom systems that significantly increases network capacity, quality and coverage by up to 20 times that of existing digital standards. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
In 1997, he joined NTT DOCOMO, INC. and is now a Manager of the radio system design group. Dr. Abeta has been working for research and development of the W-CDMA, 4G and LTE. From June 2000 to May 2001, he was a visiting researcher in Princeton University. He is currently a vice chairman of 3GPP TSG-RAN WG1 since August 2005. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Mr. Rongqin Yan has served as Vice President of Product Development in ZTE USA since July 2002. Mr. Yan served as Mobile Architect in a pre-WiMAX startup Broadstorm Telecommunications from March 2001 to June 2002. Previously, Mr. Yan served as ZTE Corporation’s General Manager of Mobile R&D Institute in Shanghai from March 1998 to March 2001. Since April 1994, Mr. Yan has served as a director and key R&D contributor of ZTE’s ZXJ10 product line until March 1998. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek Kerton is Principal Analyst and head of the Wireless Consulting Practice for the Kerton Group, a consulting firm focused on advanced telecom. Mr. Kerton is internationally recognized for his telecom industry insight and consults for companies throughout the telecom value chain (NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, Disney, ESPN, Sony...) and the financial community on the telecom market issues (Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch, Dow Jones, Morgan Stanley...).
